Lumm made three successive drives which ended on the 10 yard line where Astoria was penalized five yards for too many time outs. At this point, the entire first string of Lumm, Lamping and Childs in 2 yard line. The Astorians were forced to attempt a kick but Chilli blocked the kick and Conant recovered behind the goal giving Vernonia six points. The extra point was not good. Run dell kicked to Astoria and the ball carrier was stopped on the 45 yard line. Later, McCallister flipped a pass to Anet for a touchdown at the end of the game. The try for extra point was not good, making the score 45-6. Many out of town clubs were well repre sented. 110 Townsendites were seated at the dinner tables and more than 200 attended the afternoon meeting, details of which are given in another column. Townsend addresses I given by Mr. Arthur Moore, Mon mouth, Congressional District Manager and Mr. Clarence R. Wagner, Portland, were the best that have been heard here for some time. Skaggs grocery furnished cof fee for the dinner, which was very much appreciated and en joyed by all. Mrs. C. O. Thomas, who was a member of the three committees from the state to present peti tions to Gov. Martin last week was called back to Salem, Thurs day for another conference with the committee members. Mrs. J. W. Brown accompanied Mrs. Thomas to Salem. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Manthey attended a wedding in Seattle, Saturday evening and returned to Vernonia Sunday afternoon in time for the Townsend mass Special!
