UNIT IS ORGANIZED HERE A unit of the Woman’s Chris tian Temperance Union was or ganized in Vernonia Monday af ternoon by Miss Maud Aldrich of Gresham, president of the Mult nomah county W. C. T. U., and nation motion picture director for the W. C. T. U., during a meeting held at the Christian church. Officers for the local organiza tion are Mrs. C. R. Pritchard, president, Mrs. E. J. Douglass, vice-president; Mrs. J. F. Rose, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Charles Barnes, recording secre tary, and Mrs. Dave Marshall, treasurer. Meetings will be held every second and fourth Friday in each month. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Sidney Malmsten on October 12. Miss Aldrich arrived in Ver nonia Sunday and spoke at the evening service in the Evangelical church. She also addressed the students of both the high and grade schools on Monday. On Tuesday Miss Aldrich went to St. Helens to be present at a county convention of the W. C. T. U. Attending the convention from Vernonia were Mrs. C. R. Pritchard, Rev. A. N. Glanville, Mrs. J. B. CLYDE JENKINS GIVEN FAREWELL PARTY A farewell party for Clyde Jenkins, who left Sunday for Vancouver to be transferred to Camp Lewis for the winter, was held in the Lloyd grove Sept. 15. FAREWELL PARTY HELD FOR MR. AND MRS. FRYE The Rebekahs gave a farewell party Friday night for Mr. and Mrs. Walter Frye, who are leav ing for Switzerland soon. The affair was held at the home of Mrs. Edna Kilby. The evening was spent in talking about Swiss customs. Mr. and Mrs. Frye were pre sented with a linen table cloth.
