In the age group under four, the death rate last year from automobile-train collisions per non-fatal injury was 465 per cent worse than the average of all types of accidents; from five to 14 years, 1,541 per cent worse; 15 to 64 years, 806 per cent worse, and 65 years and over, 275 per cent worse. Despite such experience, drivers continue to ignore the evident hazard that exists at every railroad crossing. collisions last year accounted for 37 per cent of all accidents, the number of persons killed was 45 per cent of all the 29,900 fatali ties. Pedestrian deaths totaled 13,440 last year. FIVE MINUTES A DAY Motorists and pedestrians can cut the present annual automobile toll in two if they will resolve to give just five minutes a day to safety. These five minutes can be devoted to driving and walking more carefully.
