Miss Eileen Schneuer, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Harry Kerns, for the past month returned Monday to her home in Bend. Miss Bernice E. Cox of Col umbia county and Clifford A. Benvie of Washington county were married at the Christian church parsonage April 5 by F. Claude Stephens. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Henderson, Mrs. J. F. Rose, Mrs. A. E. Jen nings and Mr. and1 Mrs. F. Claude Stephens attended the dis trict convention of the Christian churches of Oregon in Portland Wednesday. Mrs. Frances Fonda visited her son T. C. Biggs and family here Tuesday. A'm o n g members of Av o n lodge, K.P. at St. Helens who at tended the Knights of Pythias meeting here Monday night were John L. Foote, Dr. L. G. Ross, Martin White, Clyde Watson and M. R. Calhoun. Cole of Longview was a visitor in town Wednes day evening and Thursday. She was a house guest of Mrs. L. H. Dewey, who invited a number of friends to drop in for a few minutes Wednesday night to greet her. Mrs. James Nanson, former Vernonia resident underwent a serious operation in an Astoria hospital Saturday. Word received here this week from her daughter Dorothy states that she is get ting along as well as can be ex pected. Mrs. F. J. Tousley was brought home Sunday from a Portland hospital in the American Legion Ambulance. A trained nurse ac companied her and is remaining in attendance. Mrs. C. F. Hieber is better this week, though still ill. Her daughter, Mrs. D. F. DeCou of Portland, is still taking care of her. Mrs. M. E. Slattery of Seattle came to Vernonia Sunday for a visit with her mother, Mrs. E. B. Miner. Judge D. B. Reasoner returned Monday after a week’s visit in Hillsboro and vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Taylor and son Herbert, Mr. and Mrs. Van Bibber and1 Miss Velma Michell, all of Portland, visited Sunday with Mrs. O. D. McCabe and Mrs. E. B. Miner. Saturday while on the way up they caught the limit of trout in Gales creek, and repeated the performance Sunday in Rock creek. Walter Carl of Birkenfeld at tended the meeting of dairymen in Portland Monday and Tuesday. F. D. Macpherson, Alec Mor ton and Emil Messing went to Rainier Tuesday to attend an old-timers meeting of the Masonic lodge in that city. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Hall. His home is now near Roseburg. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Schwab and four children of Dufur spent Sat urday night in Vernonia, leaving Sunday morning. Mr. Schwab, edi tor of the Dufur Dispatch, was editor of the Vernonia Eagle in 1929 and 1930. O. Henry Oleen, state repre sentative from Columbia county, was in Vernonia Monday evening to attend the Knight sof Pythias meeting. Burt Bush and Louis Veith of Vancouver, Wash., visited Friday night at the" home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Veith, returning to Vancouver Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Veith and sons Donald and Freddy accompanied them back, where she will visit with rela tives for the week.
