VERNONIA, OREGON, FRIDAY MAY 14, 1926 KNIGHTS HOLD CONVENTION Deputy District Chancelor Elected for Year. SFEECHFS GIVEN Largest Crowd in History of Loca* Fraternels Present; Sisiters Are Gues*, of Knights. Monday night, last, will long he remembered among members of the Knights of Pythias, as well as th< wives of the members anj a few visitors who were lucky enough to witness the program and big “Doings at the K. P. district convention in Vernonia that night. The lower and upper floors of the grange hall was more than crowded. Visitors showed names from San Francisco, Baker, Tillamook, Port land, Longview, besides thirty-si> Knights from St. Helens and Rain ier. The fore part of the evening was occupied by lodge session and work in the second degree an<j later the turning over of the program to the District Deputy Grand Chancelor I’ M. Roush of Rainier. During the con vention session some splendid speeches were made by Mr. Roush Mr. Leslie Crouch, who is the su preme representative of the order by J. Berwick of Tillamook, who is past grand chancelor and by Mr Hickerson of Tillamook—these talk- are without doubt, the most inspir ing and interesting ever listened to by a Vernonia audience. The con vention then by unanimous vote poured honors on the Vernonia lodge by the naming of our Chanceloi Commander L. R. Gillchrest, as the next deputy district grand chancelor an honor indeed vo-.cn Vcmonii Harding Lodge, Knights of Pythias No. 116 is the youngest in the coun ty and only three younger in the state. Then a program of splendid music by the Vernonia high school orches tra. This orchestra played several selections. The members are com posed of Miss Amy Hughes, Charles Hoffman,Elmer Olson, Thor Roberts anj Alvin Olson and the organiza tion is known as the “Revellers.” The audience was then highly en tertained with - violin solos by Mrs. Shinn, accompanied by Mrs. Johns at the piano. The numbers were repeat edly encoured. All this time an immense banquet waB being prepared up stairs and near midnight all repaired to the din ing room where four big tables weer loaded with spjpndid eats, with ove> one hundred people partaking in the supper. It was a big night and will never be forgotten in Vernonia. VISIT AT ST. HELENS Sister, of River City Will be Host to District Convention. The Pythian Sisters of Columbia county will hold a district conven tion in St. Helens this coming Satur day. A degree team from Portland will put on drills and degree work. It is expected that a good number from Vernonia can go over. A good time is assured. From reports the convention will start in the after noon at the K. P. hall and a dinner will be served at the Congregational church at 6 that evening with an open meeting that night in the city hall to which everyone is invited. ---------4--------- IMPORTANT Notice your address on this paper It tells you when your subscription is paid to.
