When diphtheria antitoxin is given on the first day of the disease, 2.2 per cent of the cases die. If given on the second day of the disease, 7.6 per cent of the cases die. If on the third day, 17 per cent die. If delayed until the fourth day 24 per cent die, while if delayed till the ffth anj sixth days 34 per cent of the cases die.
