St. Helens won the cup, which was donated by Mr. W. H. Folger. They had 50 points, Vernonia wus second with 27 points, Mills from Vernonia was high point man with 10 points. He won first place in pole vaulting, tied for first place in broad jump, won second place in 220 and high jump and waij third in 100 yard dash- Beal from St. Helens was next with 13 points. Then came Astoria with 14 points, Hill with 12, Warrenton with 11 points, Clatskanie with 8 points and Rainier with 5 points. The following are the results: 100 yd dash—10 3-5 sec. COLUMBIA COUNTY citizens of Vernonia would celebrate Better Homes Week this year by starting construction of such dwell ings, they would show that our com munity has faith in its future and wishes to make newcomers comfort- able. The spirit of Better Homes Week enters our towns, and passes judg- inent on our dwellings and the ideals they express. It asks the man who inhabits a shabby and disorderly house, if that home is not pulling down his spirit with an atmosphere <>f discouragement? If he would brighten it up, it should give him a bit of a mental boost, a feeling of adequacy to the demands the world makes on him. Next Sunday at the Vernonia ball park,will no doubt be a great day for baseball fans. Wilark is coming with our old friends, Busier Byers and Fred Johnson. Vernonia is going to put a much stronger team on the field than they have had this season. Every effort is being made by Mac- Jensen to overcome this shucup or losing streak. Myers will do the pitching, while Harvey Dempsey will do the receiving.
