It is too much the custom at the present day to place the blnme for the young man or young woman who hns gone wrong on the schools, the colleges, or the churches, but none of these insti tutions is originally charged with the bringing up of children. It is in the home that the child is raised, and it is in the home that it ought to be cared for. All other factors in the shaping of the character of the boy or girl, good or bad, are more or lena external. Why then should not more atten- tion be devoted to the training of parents? It has been asserted by one of the leaders in social welfare work in Chi cago that there are in that city about 2,000,000 youths who are entirely be yond their parents control. Almost every large city tells a similiar story. One of the commonest things we hear today is that our young people are hurrying headlong to Hades. A lead ing criminologist of New York says that it is because the parents are showing them the way. He says that it is lack of religion, and that any religion is better than no religion at all.
