There Is more to real humor than the things which make us laugh uproariously, as Chautauquans will realize
when they see the famous comedy drama “Cuppy Kicks,” presented by that splendid organization, the Ellas Day
Players on the third night. The humor of "Gappy Ricks” Is genuine because each character In it Is reproduced from
persons now living most of them In San Francisco where Peter B. Kyne, author of the stories which ran in the
Haturday Evening Post, studied human nature and gathered material for his successful series of character sketches.
He transplanted them onto the printed page, and Edward Ro e, the eminent playwright, has moved them from the
story page to the center of Die stage. Oliver Morosco first produced the play In New York where It had a phe­
nomenal run of a whole year. (Wilcago claimed it for five'consecutive months, and it has since won friends by the
hundreds of thousands on the circuits of the big theaters.
Of course the irascible, blunt, "I’m always right” old sea dog "Cappy” Is the central figure, and Matt Peasley, the
clean-cut, courageous young mate who beat "Cappy” at his own game, is his foil. "Cuppy's” pretty daughter; Skinner,
the efficient office manager whom “Cappy” bulldozes; old Aunt Lucy, the only person tn captivity who Is not afraid
of the old man; u ne'er-do-well rich man's son and the office stenographer are the characters selected from the
stories by the playwright for the stage version.

sult of accident, the company will pay you $5,000
in cash, immediately, in addition to all other benefits.

ORDINANCE NO. 75
ORDINANCE REGULATING
THE BURNING OF REFUSE
The City of Vernonia does ordain
as follows:
Section 1. It shall be unlawful
for any person or persons to burn
trash, lumber, leaves, straw, or any
other combustible material in any
street, alley or vacant lot, within
the city limits, except by permit “is­
sued in writing by the chief of the
fire department; such restriction,
however shall apply only to an arec
extending one block each side of
Bridge street, and extending along
said Bridge street only to the ex­
tent of the fire limits.
Section 2. In burning the afore­
said material, and within the said
limited district, a burner consisting
of fine mesh chicken wire, with met­
al top, shall be used.
Section 3. Any person or per­
sons found guilty of violation of
this ordinance shall be fined not
less than five ($5.00) dollars nor
more than twenty-five ($25.00) dol­
lars for each offense.
Section 4. All ordinances or parts
of ordinances in conflict with the
foregoing are hereby repealed.
Section 5. Whereas, it is neces­
sary for the peace, health and safety
of said City of Vernonia that this or­
dinance shall go into effect immedi­
ately, and an emergency is hereby
declared to exist, therefore this or­
dinance shall take effect when adopt­
ed by unanimous vote of the mem­
bers of the City Council and approv­
ed by the Mayor of said city.

property within the City of Vernonia
to pay for taps on water mains, con­
necting their respective premises
therewith, and providing regulations
for usage of city water and pay­
ment therefor, and declaring an
emergency.
THE CITY OF VERNONIA DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That every owner of
property within the City of Vernon­
ia, where said property or occupant
thereof becomes a user of city wat­
er, shall provide for the expenses
of installing a tap on the water
main at the closest or most conveni­
ent point designated by the city wat­
er superintendent for such connec­
tion, the charge for said tap, for
one-half (H) inch surface, to be
$12.50, to be paid in advance by
property owner or user, as above
specified; providing, that for taps
above '» inch surface, the addition­
al costs to be according to installa­
tion, including material.
Section 2. That no person shall
be delinquent in the requirement
set forth in section one above for a
longer period than 30 days after
date of first publication of this ord-
inance.
Section 3. That the City Coun-
oil shall, at such times are it may
find expedient, make such reason­
able provisions as it deems necessary
to provide a place or places where
owners if property, after becoming
users of city water, or those so us­
ing under them, as provided above,

and shoulders, hay fever, writers’ cramp, etc.

A vertebral subluxation at this point
causes so-called nervousness, heart disease,
asthma, pneumonia, tuberculosis, difficult
breathing, other lung troubles, etc.
5. Stomach and liver troubles, enlarge­
ment of the spleen, pleurisy and a score of
other troubles, so-called, are caused by sublux­
ations in this part of the spine, sometimes so
light as to remain unnoticed by others except
the trained chiropractor.
6. Here we find the cause of so-called gall
Stones, dyspepsia of upper bowels, fevers, shin-
gles, hiccoughs, worms, etc.
7. Bright’s disease, diabetes, floating kid­
ney, skin disease, boils, eruptions and other
diseases, so-called, are caused by nerves being
pinched in the spinal openings at this point.
8. Regulations of such troubles as so-
called appendicitis, peritonitis, lumbago, etc.,
follow Chiropractic adjustments at this point.
9. Why have so-called constipation, rectal
troubles, sciatica, etc., when Chiropractic ad­
justments at this part of the spine will remove
the cause ?
10. A slight slippage of one or both in­
nominate bones will likewise produce so-called
sciatica, together with many
