a VOL.I JAN.14th. 1892. 'I he Leap Year B ill, given by tl e young ladies of Talent was a success finam ¡ally and phys ically : financially, for about for- ty numbers were sold,am I pl ivsic- allv in the muscle developing feats put forth by t..e fair escorts in assisting their clumsy and awkward masculine partners from the buggies into the hall. It was an interesting affair— indeed very interesling and grati fying to the NEW’S reporter who, early in the evening pre-empted a choice corner seat and compla cently held it down while the ladies, footsore and weary, walk ed the floor looking in vain for a place to s«t down ai d rest. As the fair sex had assumed tin* role of escorts to the gentle men,of course the latter were not expected to help themselves. One young gentleman, fully appreciating the changed rela tion ot the sexes, volcnteer d to salute some of the brothers with a sweet, society kiss, which.of course was all right ami proper. Another.a young ami bashful bridegroom, did not feel at liber- tv to speak to any other lady • than his fair escort without per- mission of the floor managers. At lunch.paper napkins were distributed, but our reporter was sorry to learn that a tew of the gentlemen mistook them for handkerchiefs. However, all did eat ami were filled, and the fragments consist ed of one able bodied sandwich found on the hall steps the next morning, which fell to the share of the school-house pigs. The NEW’S urges frequent leap-year parties, as they are so “awtully’’ni<e—for the gentle men. W ith this number we com mence the publication of the TALENT NEWS. As apologies, as well ns com parisons,a re odious,we have none to offer. We shall strive to make the NEW Sa first class paper —lion— cst, accurate, trust worthy. To do this, of course we shall find it necessary to imitate gieat editors.W e shall adopt the dieta ry habits of the lu coim editor, making apples our main article of food and also.like him,be fear less and independent. W e shall be good looking, po lite ami conservative, like the ed itor of the TIDINGS ;and a walking interogation point, after the man ner of the famous Chas.Nickel). So our paper is bound to im prove.and it nobody else brags on us,we will. The NEW’S will be issued semi- occasionlv ui.till further notice. Subscription terms and ad vertising rates will be given in next number. GRANGE OFFICERS On Dec.31 st.,W’agncr Grange No.240 elected the following offi cers for 1892: M.,W'.Beeson ,0.,Jas.Purves ;L..
