People could make a living? Name it!1 can press and tnen make some deduc tions. In the first place whv should the fac tories bo closed in the face of the pre vailing high prices? Tho industries of this country were run fall force when prices were lower than they are now. The interests have been pouring letters and petitions in upon the administra tion by the wholesale in an endeavor to persuade the government to delay its trust legislation program. Now let us see what we fim : Depression in the industrial world, regardless of the pre vailing high prices and the fact that stocks along everv line of production are low, which simply means that the interests are using everv means in their power to forco the administration abandon its trust reform program. Under present conditions it is a mighty up hill job to make a success of any reform measure, relating to the industrial world, no matter how good and just that measure may be, if the j interests refuse to co-operate and work in harmony with it. However, many of! us of the less radical sort have thought that, as a rule, big business would co operate in a reasonable plan 6f trust reforms, and it is really a surprise to us that such a barefaced attempt should now be made to block the ad ministration in its endeavors. A few rnonthi ago President Wil son's trust reform program was hailed everywhere as being just the thing. Why this change of front? Have the I interests decided on a rule or ruin pol icy, endeavoring in every way, so it. appears, to bring a depression over the country, bo that the voters may be in fluenced to return the standpatters to power? It certainly looks that way. In regard to this matter let us not for get Senator Chamberlain who is stand ing by President Wilson and his reform measures. Senator Chamberlain will be detained in Washington most of the summer looking after Oregon's inter ests, while his political adversaries are working night and day to take bin sen atorial teat from him. Let us stand by Senator Chamberlain and withstand the attacks of the interests who are by a policy of bulldozing endeavoring to elect a standpatter in his stead. ever put your.elf in the place of those pvople? After the death of Christ there was a few years of cairn and then the persecution started again of which Steven was tho first martyr.
