Two Tillamook lawyers (it won’t
do to tell their names) are joshing
each other and being joshed quite
a bit by their friends over an inci
dent that occurred recently when
one of them was asked to sit as a
special judge in a “bootlegging”
case. The one who was temporarily
wearing the judicial ermine was
in doubt as to-what penalty to fix
in the case. He called up his fel
low barrister and said, “Say, John,
I’ve got a bootlegger here and don’t
know what to give him", “Well,
about $10 a quart, and say, can you
get a couple for me?”
“I used to be called
a poor cook, and

of praise, but now

Ralph E. Williams,
Republican National Committee-
man,
Portland, Oregon.
Mutual friends have told me that
you are a candidate for re-election
as Republican National Committee-
man this year, and I am constrained
to send just this word of apprecia
tion for your splendid service on the
committee all the time that I was
chairman.
Your election as vice-
chairman of the national committee
was the fullest possible evidence of
the committee’s gratitude to you
and their confidence 'in your great
future usefulness to the committee
and to the party. In this I join
most heartily. Kindest regards and
best wishes always,
WILL H. HAYS.
