Just Where and How
-^¡Is the Money
to be Spent?
A businesslike Answer to
a businesslike Question
HIRTY denominations cooperating in the Inter
church World Movement have budgeted their
needs. No business could have done it more scientifi
cally.
,
T
They have united to prevent the possibility of duplica
tion or waste. At least a million dollars will be saved
by the fact that thirty individual campaigns are joined
in one united effort.
Each denomination has arranged its budget under six
main heads:
FOR THE CHURCH'S WORK
AT HOME. A score ofitemseome
under thia head. Consider only one.
Five and a half million people In the
United State» cannoteven road and
write the Bnfliah language- Whois
to carry forward thia vast work of
Americanization if the church does
not?
FOR RELIGIOUS TRAININO. At
least 12,000,000children and young
people under 25 years ef age are en
tering American life without any
religious training at all. Remember
ing the faith of Washington and
Lincoln, do you think that America
will continue to preduce Washing
tons snd Lincolns if faith dies out
of the hearts of its youth?
FOR HOSPITALS AND HOMB3.
Every year thousand»of menand
women seriously ill are turned away
from Church hoapitala because of
lack of room. The children's homes
are compelled to turn away more
children than they can receive.
FOR THE CHURCH'S WORK
ABROAD. Influenza came first
from the Orient thirty years ago;
nearly all plagues are Oriental
plagues. So long as China has only
one physician to every 400X100people
the Orient will continue to be a
menace. So long as one-third of the
babies of India die before their sec
ond year our own babies srs not
safe. A Christian doctor or teacher
sent abroad is working for America
as truly as though be worked at
home.

The Trail That Was Blazed
From a Wyoming Town
Back in 1902 he started, Many said : It cannot
be done. But he did it.
Inspired with the idea that a fair, square and above
board service to the people would win, he establish
ed a little store in a town on the Wyoming frontier.
A few hundred dollars was his capital. With high
ideals and steadfast purpose he started his store in a
shambling building of twenty-five by forty-five iloor
space.
The Golden Rule was his policy. He was content
with small profits. One cash price to everybody. All
prices marked in plain figures. No so-called sales.
No premium baits. No fancy fixtures. No deliveries.
At that time, there were pioneer and revolution
ary business methods.
This man was then twenty-six years of age. He
was married ; had two children. Even with the
household cares, his good wife managed to do much
to help that little store succeed. The beginning was
small. The outlook was big-
Already a trail of unbroken faith had been blazed
to two hundred and ninety-seven thriving towns.
That first store in Kemmerer, Wyoming, is the
mother of its name in this town, From that humble
beginning you today are continually benefiting by
the service you receive from this Nation- Wide In
stitution.
