And the publication of that story in the Journal is damaging, -Mr. Jackson. It is untrue, mailcious, libelous. It tears down in a day what we have tried to build up in two years. Editorial Snap Shots ¡ It is a surprise to us that some crank under our dual system of legis lation have not started an agitation to refer all laws passed by the State Legislature to the people. Should the United States go to war with Germany, it would do one good thing. The class that is always de nouncing the government would find that it would be exceedingly tropical for them. o------- So the city council has to comply with the sovereign will of the people when they call for an election. The < Irgon System can't be chocked off .so suddenly and unceremoniously,But the system is a farce, isn't it? ' - ■ o----- Thanksgiving day is a long way off, but let's all be thankful that the State Legislature has adjourned. The only need of a session of the legislature was to provide a bone-dry law and good roads legislation. But the state legislators managed to get through a whole raft of new laws. Bro. Trombley has to admit that bis Democratic contemporary, The Portland Journal, has made some de liberate falsehoods and mistatements for the purpose of misleading the peo ple. Well, that is one of the funda mental principles of a Democratic newspaper anyway, and wc arc glad to know that Bro. Trombley doesn't like the Democratic company he was so fondly attached to, for he is now kicking like a real Democratic mule because the Journal called him and other editors, a "grafter”. Keep your wool down, Bro., and don’t get too hot in the collar, for the Journal is playing the role of a big headed auto cratic dictator. “Chickens conic home to roost” anil cheese boxes return to their native haunts. At least one cheese box has made a long trip lately and returned in an unusual way. Last week when the high school received some micro scopes front Bausch A l.otnb, a lab oratory supply house in San Francis co, they came packed away nicely in a box having the stamp of the Red Clover Creamery Co. The box was likely sent to some wholesale grocer in San Francisco, filled with the celebrated Tillamook cheese and after a time happened to get to the labora tory supply house. Here very oddly' the shipment to the Tillamook school just fitted the Tillamook box.
