The meeting called by the different co-operative cheese factories at the court house on Wednesday, brought together a large attendance of dairy men, the court house being packed. William Maxwell was chosen chair man and B. L. Beals secretary. School Superintendent Lamb called the meeting's attention to the effort that was being made to kill gophers and moles. The meeting unanimously opposed the bill now pending to change the terms of the circuit court and favor ed the bill that is being drawn by State Senator T. B. Handley to create an office of a dairy herd in- spector for Tillamook County, and Fred C. Baker was authorized to go to Salem with the object of wating on the Tillamook delegation. A number of matters were taken up at the meeting that pertained to dairying, as well as matter that only belonged to each co-operative factory. There were those who had trival grievances against the secretary salesman and the inspector, while on the other hand there were a number of dairymen who counseled the spirit of co-opration, for it was freely pre dicted that if the co-operative system went to pieces it would be a serious matter for the dairy industry of Till amook. A committee was appointed to ascertain why the Cloverdale fac tory pulled out and another commit tee was appointed to hear all griev ances against the secretary-salesman and inspector, to report at another meeting of the association. A petition for a cress walk in Sun- nymead was filed and the matter was referred to the Street Committee. Financial report of the Tillamook Public Library for the year ending Jan. 4th, 1917, was read and accepted. The matter of amending Ordinance No. 310 was defeated by a vote of the Council 3 to 2. This ordinance pro hibits billiard and pool halls from opening on Sunday. An effort had been made to have the Council amend this ordinance so that pool halls could open Sundays. Five petitions were filed signed by over 300 resi dents of the city remonstrating against a petition that had been filed asking the proposed amendment, and requesting the Council to retain the present provisions of ordinances which forbid certain businesses from being carried on on Sunday. It was reported that speeders were getting pretty bold and paid little at tention to the traffic ordinance. It was decided to purchase a motorcycle for the Police Department, and a committee was appointed to make the purchase. The Curfiew Ordinance will be en forced from now on. The matter of putting on another police officer was continued. The fire chief is to appoint four firemen as extra police, they to act at fires. The Marshal was instructed to notify parties who give dances that the dance must close at 12 o’clock midnight. BEAVER. ——o— The Christian Endeavor Society decided to give a social at the home of Mr. Swartz. Miss Ruby Johnson, Mrs. Mabie Woods, and Mr. Fred Gilbert were appointed as a commit tee to arrange for the social. The W. C. T. U. met at the home of Mrs. Forest Ayers last Thursday. Oscor Myers started for Butterville, Oregon, last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. McKinley have been spending the latter part of last week and the first part of this week in Portland. Mr. McKinley has gone on business and Mrs. McKinley on a visit. Mr. Payne has gone to National, Washington for a few months. The Ladies* Aid will meet with Mrs. Swartz next Thursday. Prayer meeting is to be held at the U. B. Church, Wednesday night. George Kostic’s house caught fire early Monday morning. It was soon discovered so did not do much harm. Mrs. McEneny’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Sill, whose husband was killed in the European war, is staying in Beaver, and has two children in the grammar school here. Miss Wilina Dinges has been for the last two weeks. Buell Woods has been on the list for the last few days. Will Clark went to Portland week. We arc glad to hear that Walter Anderson, who lias been sick some time is improving. The people attending church Beaver, Sunday night received a scare.
