A most remarkable dry spell for
this season of the year is being e>>
perienccd in this county. The last
rain fall was on the 26th of Septem
ber, making 30 days without rain.
William Maxwell, accompanuN by
his wife and son Joseph, with C. L.
Kinnantan and wife and little daugh
ter Pauline, met with a serious acci
dent in Portland. Mr. Maxwell and
party left Tillamook Saturday morn
ing to loop the loop, going out by
way of Seaside. While in Portland
their car turned over at Twenty-
third and Washington streets, and it
is a wonder that they did not meet
with a more serious accident. As it
was Mrs. Maxwell sustained a fracture
of the left leg and was taken to the
Good Samaritan hospital. The others
were also taken to the hospital as
they were all more or less shaken up.
The car was descending the hill, ac
cording to Mr. Maxwell's statement,
when the brakes refused to work. Th
an endeavor to check the speed and
avoid accident he attempted to turn
into the side street. Instantly a front
wheel of the car collapsed under the
strain and the machine upset, throw
ing the occupants to the pavement,

to leave the hospital, where their
wounds were dressed.
Ira J. Wolfe met with an accident
on Monday. His horse became scar

a post on the Ebinger ranch. Wolfe
was thrown out, his head striking the
ground, which rendered him uncon
