Handley ;.ud Russell Hawkins obtaining flat tering majorities. No doubt there will be several in- jep.a nt candidate* in the coming dr ion, .or already there 1* a move ment on loot to have other* run for su ■ ot the offices. We understand that an effort is to be made by some oi the leading Re publican* at Nehalem to drop their liltk petty jealousies aud unite on klr. Keed lor county commissioner. 'J hat looks like good common sense, for there i. no reason why Repúbli ca.1» 1.1 that part of the county should be at loggerheads. ------ o------ The snap shot man is firmly of the opinion that the $15,000 appropriated fur the Bayocean road should be ex pended on that road and not used for road work in other places. Apply that amount of money elsewhere it will mean that much more money to be appropriated in the next budget which is not a very good way to economize. In fact, it is an exceedingly bad pre- ecd nt, for we contend that if the budget contains certain amounts for certain roads and certain bridge* the money should be used on them and not diverted for different purposes. Now that the primary nominating election is over, no one can accuse the snap shot man of publishing any thing that would injure the characters or imputations of any of the local as pirants. Most of the aspirants have commended us for keeping out of the local tight. It wai somewhat difficult to <lo so, more especially when we heard persons say that which was not tm< about some of the aspirants, for the “cheerful liar” was in evidence, as usual, and those who endeavored to besmirch the characters of those who sought office were busy. The snap shot man had a little con troversy with one of our subscribers about the increase in taxation. He was one of those who honestly believed that the Oregon System would result i' less taxation. We asked him if he . • '.id fur the eight hour law, which increase the cost of road work and which resulted in a number of city, county, and state employes being al- I a i to work oniy eight hours and • 1 - 1 ay for ten hours. Keed was elect ed County commissioner ne would put a linage across me .Nehalem river num mean > I'oitit to Vvheeler. The prison was mismiormed and was cir culating mat which was not truv. Even before Mr. Keed had any inten tion ot running tor county commis sioner, it was nis opinion ttiat the location ot certain roads and bridges in the Nehalem country should be leit to disinterested persons and practical engineers, and whatever their decision is ne was willing to abide by. Mr. Keed made this ciear to a number of the voters when he went through the county. It was the State Engineer s department mat went over the Three Rivers and Little Nestucca roads to uecide which was the best route for the highway into Tillamook County, and it was decided that the Little Nestucca road was the best and would benciiit more settlers. T bat settled the dispute in the South part oi the coun ty, and the Little Nestucca road will be built and become the highway. We see no reason why the »trite that so often takes at Nehalem can not be settled in the same manner. It should be. Mr. Reed is wise in ad vocating that the State engineer or some independent person be called up to decide when the time is ripe to build more bridges and roads at Ne halem. Too much money have been wasted in building roads to benefit a few persons.
