School Notes.
Next Thursday evening. May 27.
the Senior class will have Class Night
at the High School Auditorium. The
class will, class prophecy, and so I
<m, will be given, and there are other !
very interesting features on the pro
gram. There will be no admission
lee. The public is heartily invited to
this entertainment. I bis program is
probably an unusual feature for our
city; but this year's graduating class
is a capable class, and wishes to show
appreciation for all patronage ren
dered to the high school.
The commencement exercises will
take place Friday evening, May 28, at
the Christian Church.
Last Friday evening the faculty of
the high school entertained the Sen
ion class at the borne of Mr. and Mrs.
H. C. Hanson. The evening was fillesl
with delightful surprises, which reach
ed a climax in the stunt "Lochinvar”
given by the faculty. The evening was
thoroughly enjoyed.
Last Thursday afternoon
Rev.
Summerlin spoke to the high school
student body. There was a great deal
of sound advice in what he said, and
a great deal of comfort and encour
agement, especially for those who
will soon enter "life’s school.”
Tuesday afternoon, Professor Ep-
ply, President of the Philomath Col
lege, spoke. His theme was "Prepar
ation for your life Work.” It was
very interesting and helpful.
The last of the series of track meets
among the grades for the prize cup
will be held next Friday afternoon,
if the weather permits.
Since this is the last week of regn
lar school work the grades are con-
testing lively for the Palmer pennant.
The sixth grade has won in its class
for two successive weeks, and the
second grade has done the same
tiling for the primary department.
Since Thursday morning, yellow
slips and souvenir spoons are all the
fad among the Seniors. How strange!
Cloverdale and Nestucca Valley News
Owing to the rain the past week,
road work was stopped, several places
being unfinished makes it very dis
agreeable in traveling.
Streets in town have been graded
and cement side walks are to be put
in as soon as weather permits.
Win Trombley was down from Till
amook Tuesday evening and the band
boys had a good rehearsal.
Owing to the change in schedule of
the 1’. R. & N. railroad the white
stage reaches Cloverdale about 5 p.m.
School will close with the grammar
grades Friday. High School will con-
tinuc another week.
T. A. Porter and Joe Etzmilcr,
both of Oretown, are building two of
the finest barns in the south end of
the county.
Axel linlah is hobbling around
town from the effects of coming in
contact with a kicky horse. It struck
Alex half way between the knee and
foot and bruised it up considerable.
The new resturant that opened for
business a few weeks ago is doing
well. They have also moved the soda
fountain from Leonard’s where peo
ple can get both ice cream and soda.
