To the Voters of Tillamook County. Rev. R. Y. Blalock and his family had a close call on Tuesday morning, vhen their home at Blaine was com pletely destroyed by fire. Mr. and Mrs. Blalock were having their break fast when they heard a rumbling noise and thought it was an automo bile, but discovered that their home was on fire. Two children were tip itairs in bed at the time. Mr. Blalock immediately started to connect the kose but the fire had gained consider able headway. Mrs. Blalock ran u; stairs to her children, and after doing so fire prevented her from returning. She went to the window and Mr. Blalock told her to throw the chil- dien out and he would catch them, which she did. While Mrs. Blalock was getting out of the window the window sash came down and held her there, by the arm and she was badly burned. She managed to get free and fell from the window. The house and 'the entire contents were destroyed. Mrs. Blalock was badly burned about the face, neck and arms and had her hair burned. She was so seriously burned that Dr. Wendt was sent for Mr. Blalock also having several bad burns. A subscriptoin list is being circu lated to raise money to help the fam- ily in their misfortune. I have entered the campaign for the office of District Attorney of Tilla mook County, and in order that you may know where I stand and what I intend to do if elected I respectfully submit the following statement: The primary purpose of having a district attorney is to enforce the laws as they are on the statutes. The people by their vote at the recent election have emphatically declared that the saloon and the liquor traffic must be abolished. This law will be come effective on January 1st, 1916 and the enforcement of this law will be one of the most important duties of the district attorney which you are going to elect at this election. I have entered the campaign as a candidate, with a full realization of what this law means as well as the importance of it being enforced, and with a de cided determination to enforce this law and every other law’,with vim and vigor, without fear or favor, and re gardless of who has to stand the con sequences. Vice and immorality have no place in our society, and should I be elect ed, I will exercise all the powers of the district attorney's office tending toward the abolishment of these evils in all their forms, and leading to a higher and a better citizenship. I favor strict compliance with the law pertaining to the letting of all contracts for county improvements and the handling of all public funds, and applying the same methods in conducting the affairs of the county as are applicable in our own private business. I am absolutely independent of any cliques or factions, 1 have no interest to serve except the people of Tilla mook County, and if elected will de vote all my time and give my inrivid- ual attention to the duties of the dis trict attorney, and will demonstrate what I have advocated, namely, That prohibition will prohibit if properly and efficiently enforced, and that vice, immorality and violations of all criminal laws can be greatly lessoned by a vigorous and fearless prosecu- tion. On Friday night the play will be given in Bay City. 1 he story may be briefly summarized as fol lows: Scrooge a cranky old miser who is balancing his books for the end of the year, is so deeply ingrossed in his lvst for more money that he is scarce ly awarethat it is Christmas. His for mer business partner who has been dead for several years reappears be fore Scrooge in the for of a spirit, while the latter is studiously bending over his ledger. Three other spirits appear at different times showing Scrooge visions of his own dreadful life. “Christmas Past” brings a vision of his past life and disappears. Christ mas present shows him visions of his pi esent life and disappears. Christ mas future brings such a sad and gloomy vision that it touches the heart to see the miser crouch like some wild animal before the spirit and the vision. Scrooge firmly deter mines to thwart the prophecy of “Christmas Future” by changing hi» life to a better coarse. Does he suc ceed? The cast of players are as follows: Scrooge ................... A movement has been started among the members of the bar in Polk, Yamhill and Tillamook counties comprising the twelfth judicial dis trict, to have the terms of the circuit ccurt changed. It is claimed by those initiating the proposition that the terms of the court as now existing in this district do not meet the con venience of either of the laywers ot the taxpayers who are compelled to serve on the juries. A bill is now being drawn up and vzill be presented early in the coming session of the legislature by W. T. Vinton, senator elect of Yamhill county. It will have an emergency clause attached, so that, if passed, it will become immediately effective. The bill will provide for three terms of court in each county, but the time of holding them will be as follows: Polk county—In January, April and October, instead of in February, August and November. Yamhill county—In February, June, and November, instead of March, September and December.
