was in the city on Wednesday look

class hotel. He came on the solici

pleaseb with the outlook. A com

W. W. Howitt, aged 63 years, died
at his home in God’s Valley, eigh
teen miles east of Nehalem, Thurs
day, death being indirectly due to
phneumonia. the body was taken
to Nehalem on Friday, where it was
embalmed on Saturday, and made
ready to be taken to Portland for
interment on Monday. Mr. Howitt
was a wealthy property owner, hav
ing considerable interests in Monte
villa, where his family resides. He
leaves a wife, one daughter and
three sons to mourn his death.
The news of the death of Harry
Crane, which occurred^on Saturday
at his home at Garbaldi, came as
a surprise to his friends, although
it was known that he bail been stif
fering with catarrah of the head.
He was 50 years of age and leaves
a wife and seven children. He had
resided in the county for 35 years.
The funeral took place on Monday
and the interment was in the Bay
View cemetery, the religious ser
vices being performed by Rev. Mr.
Irvine, of Bay City.
B. F. Felger, of the Albany
Nutsery, has been canvassing the
county, selling nursery stock, and
he informs us that several parties
have given orders for large quan
tities of small fauit trees and plants,
as they expect a large business in
that line in this county, which will
find a ready market at the numer
ous summer resorts The Albany
Nursery has a reputation for turn
ing out fine stock, and as there are
many places in thia county where
the small fruits grow to perfection,
those who get a start in that busi
ness now will reap a good reward
in the future.
M. Thompson, of Blaine, give» us
some additional information in re
gard to the bulb clover discovered
in this county, which will tie inter
eating to our readera. He writes :
“To the many inquiries concerning
the new clover discovered by me in
this county, I will state that the
clover never grew wild As far as I
know the first plant of this variety
grew here in 1907 on cultivated soil,
I have the parent plant. As botan

the form is new in the clovers, it is
