The total of the outstanding war
wants against both (unda reach the sum
of $6533.16, and deducting from this
total the amount of cash on hand, we
have the present indebtedneas of the
city to be $5216.72, in addition to an
outstanding bunded
indebtedness of
$45,000.00.
The (treasurer inform® me that of the
above mentioned outstanding warrant®,
tn amount about equal to the|cash on
hand has ceased to bear interest, since
due notice ha® been given that such var-
ran*® would be paid on presentation.
The treasurer'® statement also shows
that there is uow due the citv for street
assessments aod improvement $1440.37.
Immediate step® should be taken to en
force the payment of this sum, and I in
dulge the hope that the various pro
perty ¿bolder® against whom these un
paid assessments stand will adjust the
respective amounts due, thereby reliev
ing themselves of the additional ex|>ense
that may lie incurred in court.
In consideration of the foregoing,
economy in the present administration
will be expedient. Si ill. it behoves the
council to discriminate between false
and true economy. Succeeding in this,
we shall be generally successful.
