STATE BANK EXAMINER John Steele, of Portland, Selected by the Commission. S alem . Orc . March 20.— lames Steele, of Portland, has been appointed Stale Bank Examiner. He is a brother of State Treasurer Steele and was one of the founders of the First National Bank at Portland in 1868. and later was con nected with the Merchants’ National Bank of that city. Nearly his entire life has been spent in the banking business. The appointment was made at the meet ing of Governor Chambeilain. Secretary of State Benson and State Treasunr Steele, comprising the Board of Bank Commissioners. The position carries with it an an annual salary of$2000 and traveling expenses. The inspection oc curs at any time deemed advisable, and the trips are not announced in advance. —Oregonian.
