TILLAMOOK HEADLIGHT. MARCH 7. 1907. < officer who will enforce the law. If Huritsinger fails to get the increase in wages it will be on account of Rollie’s “brain storm” and unwarranted attack on Mayor Botts this week, for it looks as though the councilmtn are just as anxious as the mayor to procure the services of a person who will do his duty as a peace officer and that they are going to do what they think is I»c8t for the in terest of the city. As Rollie wanted to Ire the big inogul of the city, he seems to boil over once in a while because the people turned him down, «and it was a good thing fur the city that they did so. * ♦ * The city council is again up against the old bone of contention, that of the enforcement of law and in the selection ol a peace offi er who will do his sworn fluty. Il is not surprising to the Head light that there are so many mischieyious and bad hoys and girls who are giving the city a touch name, lor the citv is only reaping what it sowed. For years the city paid a city marshal $50 a month to protect violators of the law. and with so many of the parents coinciding with and lining up with the lawbreakers, it is not surprising, with those environ ments for so many years, that so many ol the boys and girls have started out to become toughs, and are liable to remain toughs all their lives because their par cuts and the city officials fuiled to exer vise the restraining influence over them. But, as we said before, Tillamook City is only reaping the seeds that it sowed because the parents and city officials for a number of years neglected to apply the breaks and place the lisitig generation under proper control. Mayor Botts and the city council appear to be verv an xious to bring about a change in the inoral atmosphere of the city, but their greatest difficulty is in finding a person who will do his duty and make the bovs and girls understand that this rowdyism must slop and remain >o.
