Representative Beals, of Tillamook an*4 Yamhill, in a bill introduced in the state legislature, asks an appropriation from the State of $50,000 to be expended in deepening and improving the harbor in Tillamook Bay. W * * This is a “Bricktop” snap shop. Whnt a big fuss some people did kick up about Sheriff Crenshaw using “Bricktop,’’ the ex convict, in rounding up the violators of the law. It wai a terrible thing, so they argued, to allow such n criminal to remain in the city. Briefly, let us discuss this. Admitted that “Bricktop” is an ex-convict and petty thief when tinder the influence of drink, what about the robbers who ran gambling games in this city and who robbed the farmers, boys and others who came to Tillamook City to trade ? One gambler said of “Brick lop” that wns a prince when he wns log ing money nt the gambling table. But the point we want to impress upon the people of this county is this : For seve ral years the gamblers carried on a sys tem of wholesale robbery nnd paid citv officials for protection, but did you ever hear one of the men who howled about “Bricktop’’ howl about the gamblers ? We don't know much about “Bricktop,” but it seems to us that he is not half as bad as the persons who robl-ed the peo ple of this county at the gambling dives n this city. i —— HEMLOCK Beaver creek is booming again, it* as high as its been this winter. |os Bixby was in our neighborhood lately.
