Grayson is circulating nno- ther petition to have the North Yamhill mail leave at four instead of five o’clock in the evening. There were some objec tions raised to this when Mr. Grayson circulated a petition to this effect some time ago, which is now overcome. D. Ellison was placed on trial again on Saturday for violating the local option law, the first jury having failed to agree, it standing five to one for conviction. In the second trial lie was promptly iound guilty and Justice White imposed a fine of $100. His attorneys appealed the case to the circuit court. Mrs. Anna S. Wells was granted divorce from Asa 0. Wells because cruel treatment, in the circuit court Portland. Mrs. Wells said that her husband's conduct towards her had be. come unbearable and that he lately drove her out of the house. They were married in February, 1892. J. L. Murphy was brought in from Traak on Wednesday. While coming across the mountains he whs ‘slow in keeping up with the mail carrier, and getting off his horse to tlx the Huddle, the animal got loose and went back to the barn. Murphy was, left in the mountains all night and had his feet frozen, and next morning managed to make Pat's. He was brought to the Trask House, where Ins feet were looked after. He came in to work on the rail road, and was dressed in thin clothes, W. J. Stephens, who runs the White Corner as a soft drink counter and bil Hard hall, and w hich again developed into a genuine gambling joint, was ar rested on Saturday for gambling, and pleading guilty. Recorder Hedden fined Stephens $50. He has been mixed up in a number of gambling scrapes and has been before the circuit court several times, and on one occasion in imposing a fine upon him Judge Burnett cautioned him that if ever he was brought before the circuit court again a severe sentenre would be imposed. WILL BUILD ROAD WILSON RIVER. UP Lytle Plans Branch Line From Tillamook Thirty Miles Eastward. The construction of a branch rail- road from the Pacific Railway & Navi gation Company’s line at Tillamook up the Wilson River as far as McNamer's camp, a distance of 30 miles, was an , nounced yesterday bv President Lytle. This is an addition to the branches to different sections of the coast country already maped out. A location party has been sent up the Wilson River and is now rnning preleminary lines. The date of commencing work on this part of the P. R. & N. cannot yet be announced, as the whole forces are en gaged in building the main line west ward from Ruxton to Tillamook With the completion of the main line, atten tion will be turned to the different branches. The primary purpose of a road up the Wilson River will be to haul out the vast bodies of standing timber on both sides of the stream. The forests are extensive an d'are of excellent quality . There is sufficient timber in the Wilson River valley to keep a rail road buisy for years hauling out sa w logs. The county is mountainous at a distance from Tilla mook Bay, but there is a large portion of it that will make splendil dairy land when logged off. Together with the re mainder of thejCoast country.it is adapt ed for grass and dairy products. By following the river all che way a feasible grade can be secured. The 1*. R. & N Company, as predicted when the Hammond line made Tilla ■nook its objective po»nt, has a warm fight on hands for rights away between Garibaldi and Tillamook. The former company has asked for a permanent restraining order from tlie courts to pre vent the Astoria & Columbia River Rail road from encroaching on its survey be tween the two points, and this suit will be heard todav before Judge Galloway at McMinnville. It is contended by the P. R. & N. that its line has been definitely located between the two points and the surveys marked, and that the rival road now has its surveying crew on the ground, who are making locations by taking the numbers from the Lytle stakes. For a portion of the distance along the shore of Tillamook Bay there is said to be room for two parallel railroads, while in other places there is room for hut one. The warfare between Lytle and Ham. mond on this strip of territory promises to be as keen as that waged on the north bank of the Columbia between Hill and Harriman. If reports are to be believed Harriman is also involved in this struggle for favorable locations. The Wall street wizard has been credited at different tunes with being behind each of the two projects. The latest rumor was to the effect that A. & C. has been purchared by the Harriman interests, but this au thoritatively denied, and a sworn affi davit to meet that effect, by General Manager Talbot, will be submitted in court todav at the hearing of the in junction suit. The Lytle forces have displayed much activity during the past few months, dispite the most adverse weather condi tions and the fact that the construction work is being done in the mountains where storms [are very [heavv. Twenty miles of road has been constructed west from Hillsboro and the line is now in operation. Terminals and yards have j been located at the Tillamook end, and I locations established from that point to six miles north of Garibaldi and along the Salmon Berry and Nehalem Riyers. A distance of 42 miles west of Hillsboro has been petmanently located. Seven locating parties are now in the field closing up the gaps.—Oregonian. THE CLEARANCE SALE Goes Merrily On.
