Tilers are many straws showing that the political breezes are watting things in the direction of Mr. George A. Steel’s candidacy for the Republican nomina tion for state treasurer. One of the favorable indications (and one which is especially gratifying to Mr. Steel) is the fact that the men who were employed, by him when he was superin tendent of the East Side Railway com. pany have rallied as one man to his sup port. In fact they are among his most enthusiastic supporters and leave uo oc casion unimproved to exploit the father liness of “Uncle George” (as they call him) towards those who worked under his supervision ; and this lively interest upon tbe people to whom they address themselves. Another favorable indica tion is the fact that every business man with whom Mr. Steel has had business relations during his 40 years, residence in Multnomah and Clackamas counties now speakes a good word for him, and I all are helping forward his candidacy. Still another significant fact is that j even those who are pledged to and are supporting other gentlemen for the posi- ' tion all agree that Mr. Steel is eminently > qualified for the place and is deserving j of the best thing that could be given him by the Republicans of the state of Ore- 1 gon.—Oregon Daily Journal. toll road on the Washington county end of the Wilson river road, I desire to ask a little of your space to explain the act. ion of the court and of myself as one of its members.
