E. Page. The steamer Sue H. Elmore came in on Tuesday with freight and her passengers were Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Botts and baby, S. McCarger, H. Crenshaw and wife, P. Swenson, \V. W. Curtis and W. W. Ride- lagh. She will leave this city Friday. The Ladies of the Eastern Star will give an entertainment at the opera house next Monday evening, when the burles que of “ Female Masonry” will be ren dered, together with a nice musical pro gram. The price of admission will be 25c. and 15c. George Johnson returned from Truckee, Cal., where he has been working for the Truckee Lumber Co. Before he left there were three teet of snow, and he was in formed that the saw mill at Hobsonville would not start up as long as the price of lumber remains low. There was an explosion in McIntosh & McNair Co.’s store on Monday. Some dead head fruit cans were thrown into the stove, when an explosion occurred, blowing the stove door off, causing the stove pipes to fall with a crash, sending cinders and smoke in every direction, and those in the store thought that the Japs had opened fire upon them. The plans and bids for a new court house are to be in by next Monday,when an adjourned meeting of the county court will be held to consider the matter, We understand that County Judge W W. Conder has been making some inves tigation whether the county court has authority to go ahead and build a new court honse and issue warrants with the present indebtedness of about 430,000. The county court will meet next Mon day, when the matter of prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquors in the county will come up under the local option law, | which was carried in the recent election. An effort will be made, so we are inform ed, to defeat the vote of the people and have the county court declare against prohibition. A good deal of care was* taken bvthe county court and county I officials in carrying out their duties, and people are getting a little anxious to see how the court stands and what will be the objections raised to override the will of the people in Tillamook County. Beals for mayor, he paid that gentle man a high tribute for the energy he dis played in business,and thought he was a most desirable person for the position, for the city contained many land-marks of his enterprise and push. No other nominations were made, and Mr. Beals was declared the nominee for mayor on the citizen’s ticket. He was Si.50 per year called upand briefly stated that he would do all in his power to tjive the city a business administration and would en. force the laws. The onlv contest was over the nomi nation for city marshal. N, J. Myers, Ered Arthur and W. T. Wolfe, all good men, were placed in nomination. Our readers will be sorry to hear Ed. Walker died early Wednesday, after a short illness He was out sawing wood on Saturday, when an attack of cry si pe- las in the face and nose came on and he went to a doctor. The deceased thought at first that it was only a boil on the nose and treated it as such. .It grew worse, and either caused blood poison ing or affected his brain, which caused h's death. He was born April 18, 1863, in O’Clare, Wit , nnd came to Tillamook in 1888. He was married on the 16th August, 1891, to Miss Ida Vaughn, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Vaughn. The deceased leaves a sorrowing wile and affectionate daughter. Miss Hattie, and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his death. lie was a member in good standing in the Wood man lodge in this city On Thursday the remains were buried at Bay View cemetery, the Woodmen having charge of the funeral, which was attended by a large number of people. '1 he bereaved wife and daughter have the sympathy of the entire community, The City Ticket.
