A very pretty wedding was solemnized
Sunday, October 30th, at 1 o’clock p.m.,
when Miss Olive, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. William Baxter, was united in
marriage to Mr. W. T. Johnson, the
ceremony being performed in the presence
of relatives and a few intimate friends,
by Rev. Herbert F. White, pastor of the
U.B. Church, at Beaver, Ore., t the
home of the bride’s parents, Dolph, Ore.
The different appartments were beauti
fully decked with ferns and autumn
flowers, the ceremony being performed
under a large floral bell.
The wedding march was played bv the
bride's sister, Mrs. M. A. Meador, of
Arizona. The groom entered the room
accompanied by the bride's maid, Miss
Lunne Coulson, of Beaver, Ore., who
wore a becoming gown of white mull,
then came the bride leaning on the arm
of her brother, George Baxter. The
bride wore a very pretty dress of cream
mohair done in drawn work and set off
with white ribbon trimming, a flowing
veil caught with orange blossoms com
pleted the bride’s toilet Both bride and

William Johnson of Muncie, Ind., just
21 vears old, physically tit and consum
ed with a desire to become a soldier, was
rejected by the recruiting officer because
his height fell short a fraction of an inch.
One hour later he returned and suggested
that a mistake had been made. On an
other trial it was found that he exceed
ed the regulation height bv a small frac
tion. Then it was learned that Johnson
had employed his hour butting his head
vigorously against a wall to raise a
bump large enough to admit him to the
service.
‘'We were at the semi-centennial at Al
gona,” observes the Algona (la.) Cour
ier. “We went early Wednesday morn
ing and did not start for home until
Friday morning. We put in two full
days and the major portion of two
nights celebrating. We registered, we
ate barbecued steer, we listened to all of
the addresses, saw and heard the melo

Frank Weimer and George C. Call.

As Mrs. Mary Warden entered her
home on Broadway, Cleveland, early

man was frightened, but she was not

and yelled lustily. The burglar fought
desperately, but the women could not be
shaken off. Her cries aroused her hus
band, who came to her assistance armed
with a shotgut. Two of Mrs. Wedern’s
prisoner’s companions, who had been
at work in another part of the house,
rushed into the house and attacked Wed
ern before he could use his weapon.
They beat him into insensibility and
made their escape, Mrs. Wedern held
onto the one she had, however, and
finally succeeded in throwing him down
and sitting on him.
