is just as enthusiastic as ever over the
good roads movement in the county, and
having organized seven clubs, with the
prospect of more, he is well pleased with
the interest taken in them, but he is a
little surprised that the people of Tilla
mook City have shown a lack of interest
in the movement.
The furniture business in this city took
a tumble to itself on Monday and then
doubled up. for a limited amount of busi­
ness and steep rents and expenses have
eaten up the profits, which was not very
encouraging to either Reynold & Jones
nor to Peterson & Svenson, so a dicker
was made whereby Reynolds & Jones
bought out their competitors, and they
have moved their stock from the Olsen
building to the Nels Thompson store.
County Judge W. W. Conder has made
arrangements to address a meeting next
Wednesday evening at the Grange hall
at Fairview in the interest of the good
roads movement. Several of the attor-
neys have promised to help the judge at
the Fairview meeting with the idea of
forming a live and enthusiastic club at
that place and making it the largest in
the county. All those who are in favor of
good roads in that neighborhood are
cordially invited to attend.
The entertainment given on Saturday
evening at the opera house, under the
auspices of the Redmen, to raise funds
for the purpose of erecting a monument
to the memory of Sacajawea, the only
woman to cross the continent with
Lewis and Clark, had a moderate size
attendance. The entertainment consisted
of a number of tableaus, the first being a
representation of the bronze statue to be
erected to Sacajawea, and a Indian war
dance, all of which were nicely carried
out by those who took part. Mr. J H.
Howard, Past Great Sachem of the Red-
men, explained to the audience the differ­
ent tableaus.
