men chewing the political rag on Tues­

So there are several republicans who
aspire to the dignity of legislator and
statesmen, the names of W. T. West, C.
B. Wilev, Chas. Rav and W. G. Chapce
are spoken of as candidates for joint
representative.

It is said that George Brownell, the
Clackamas county statesman, is not an
aspirant for congress, but will support
Binger Hermann. So the Lane county
gentleman will have formidable opposi­
tion, especially should there be a number
of aspirants, as in all probability there
will.

Sheriff E.W. Stanley and Geo. Grayson
appear to he the leadiug aspirants for
the sheriffalty. It requires a little grit
to aspire to that office, for had men have
a happy faculty, when they are hard
pressed, of plugging sheriffs with lead.
But this does not daunt persons from
aspiring to the position.

Rah ! Simon is beaten in Portland and
Senator Mitchell's friends will control
the organization in Multnomah county.
This is as it should be, for Simon is such
a light weight in comparison to Mitchell
that it is not surprising that Portland
has felt all over herself to get into the
Senator's hand wagon.

County School Superintendent G. B.
Lamb has gone to the north end of the
county, and will.no doubt, interview the
political “marms" before he returns, as
he is acandidade forcounty clerk. George

throughout the county who will give
him their support at the right time.

shape as to his meat supply during the
next twelve months.

statistician of the Department of Agri­
culture, there arc on hand, 10,736,059
horses, nearly three million mules, nearly
seventeen and a half million cows, 43,.
629.498 other cattle, nearly 52,000,000
sheep and over 47,000,000 hogs.

As Tillamook City has been deprived
of mail tor nearly three weeks, it is about
time tor her to sever diplomatic relations
with the outside world and establish a
postal system of her own. The postal
authorities in Portland, who were so
darn'd impotent and refused to order all
the mail m l»v way of Sheridan when
they were appealed to day after day to
do so, will know they have been up
against the sturdy little kingdom of
Tillamook before the matter of the delay
of the mail is a closed incident at Wash­
ington, for they cannot treat Tillamook
county with impunity.

Creameries mid cheese factories con-
tinue to multiply in Tillamook County.
One of these days it will dawn upon the
dairymen that their product can l»e man­
ufactured at less cost in a large factory
than in so many sin.ill ours. When that
community of interests ptevails it will
be death to the small factories, with the
exception of places where it is too far to
get to a laige factory. It is getting so
that every school district has one or
more factory, ami it is a good thing, for
with these multiplying, there is an in­
crease ol cows, cheese and money in the
county.

There arc a number of aspirants who
claim they are not aspirants. Surely thev
must have placed their aspirations under
a bushel basket and now they expect the
political lightning to st tike it and then
land them into office. When a person is
wanting a nomination from his partv
there is nothing like declaring, out-and-
out. the whole truth.
