A sad and fatal accident happened on Saturday afternoon on the Nehalem river, when Matt Olsen accidentally shot his step-son, Carl Gilbert, a young man 17 years of age. They had rowed to the cannery from their home in a boat with salmon, and it was while returning that the accident happened They had taken a gun along with them Olsen was in the bow of the boat and Gilbert was facing him, rowing the boat bv pushing the ours, m piGc’j v common with fishermen A band of ducks was seen overhead and OLen picked tip the gun to have a shot, but as the ducks were out ol range he din fire, placing the gun down in the boiit again.
