Authorities Want 34 Graves Opened. P hiladelphia , March 16—The police authorities have directed the ojieiiitig of 34 graves, having secured evidence which led them to the belief that George Hosaey, the “herb doctor,” is responsible for at least many of the deaths. Hosses is in jail as ail accessory to the murder of William G. Danze, whose widow is charged with having administered to her husband slow poison furnished by the negro. “We do not know how many poison- ings can be traced to Hossey,’’ said a police official today, “but thus tar we have secured evidence that has warrant ed us in directing the opening of 34 graves. This step will begin at once, and we believe the result will show that Assistant District Attorney Shoey was not exaggerating when he branded Hoe- sey as an arch prisoner. This case is assuming proportions tar lievotid the comprehension of those con nected with it at the time Hossev was arrested. The real investigation is just lieginniiig, and before it proceeds much further startling developments will crop up. There may by several arrests, but they are not likely to come until the organs of the bodies exhumed have been examined by the chemists.**-* Detectives are searching for a white woman who is alleged to have represent ed Hossev in the preliminary dealings with bis patrons. It is all off with “ the tiger“ in Helena. The City Council at a recent meeting decided to Institute a Lexow investiga tion with regard to the alleged gambling graft on the part of city officials, and the edict has gone forth that games of all kinds arc to be tabooed in Montana's capital citv henceforth. The Board'of Revenue has completed the census of C hina, showing it to have a population of 426,447.000. Mrs. Willis Powell left on the 14th by stage for La Center, Wash. She was called to the bedside of her aged mother,' who is not expected to live. There were several city sports out last Sunday fishing for the speckled beauties, . but none of them wanted C. Ben to furnish them with a home. There was a birthday party at Issac Quick’s last Sunday. The logging camp was shut down two days last week on account of very stormy weather. There is quite an increase of milk re ceived at the South Prairie cheese fact ory, several new patrons taking milk there Peter Snider, who has been an efficient and steady employee at the logging | camp for the past two years, has quit [ work in the camp.
