THE TILLAMOOK HEADLIGHT. JANUARY 23. 1902. FASHIONABLE OVERCOATS. All kinds of First Class Rubber Goods in BOOTS and OVERCOATS. At Low Prices that will Surprise You. COHN & CO., Leading Merchants. Sparks from the Editor’s Quill. It would be a wise move for the game warden to appoint a deputy at Nestuccn to round up those who round up deer with dogs, as we understand this un- sportsman-like habit is very prevalent in that sectir n. * * * The farmers’congress could not make the dairymen who are to be seen daily taking ten to fifteen large can of milk to the factories believe that the dairymen of Tillamook do not inilk their cows in the winter months. * # * A petition is being circulated praying for the establishment of a high school in Tillamook City, and as this is some- thing which all should take pride in, we hope it will culminate at some early date in this bring decided upon. * < * Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Illinois, nil of which were burned up by heat without rain last summer, are groaning over cold without snow this winter. Did some one ask where the true arid region is located ? Right here in Tillamook. * * * The Herald will not appear until Fri day, for Bro. Watson says he is short of news until the Headlight comes out. We have no objection to Bro. Watson tak ing the cream of the news from the Head light for the I Jerald if he would give us pioper credit. * * * If, as it is stated, sonic of the city ordi nances have mysteriously disappeared, the new city council should lose no time in deciding upon a new set of ordinances. When so many people have keys to fit the city’s “safe’’ it is not surprising that a certain ordinance is missing. * * * Mr. D. I*. Newell, of Nehalem, was in the city on Wednesday. He used to call in and pay his respects to the editor, but somehow he got hot in the collar with us over a very trivial affair and we sup pose he has not cooled oft yet. But some sweet day he may repent and will be glad to call upon the editor again. * * * Mr. J. S. Dellinger came in from Astoria on Wednesday. This gentleman was one of the Bay City boomers, and hav ing inflated too much wind into the real estate of that burg, it suddenly exploded, and the wreck remains as a warning to others not to get tangled U|> with those who are boomers. * * * Every voting precinct in Tillamook county should organize to defeat the Sappington-Maxwell faction and their henchmen, is the ad vice of the Headlight, for that would be for the best interest of the county and the now over-taxed taxpayers. Let the organization be known as the anti-tax eaters brigade. tt * * The county court had no right to do away with Barnegat voting precinct at the January term of court, for the law says that voting precincts can only be changed at the November term preceding an election. Was the result of the last republican primary at Barnegat unsatis factory to the county judge and a few others ? This is how some |>eople have it sized up. * * * The city council decided upon Albert Mason as councilman tor the fourth ward on Monday, thus ending the little petty rumpus started in that ward bv R M. Watson, who figured as a bolter from tlic city election, was elected by bribery and the aid ol the gambling and saloon element, and then, getting chicken heart ed and having the back bone of a tallow candle, crawfished and refused to qualify. Mr. Mayor, we move that the recorder spread the above paragraph on the city records under the heading “Watson’s Windy Journalism.1* * * * We are informed that one faction of the republican partv intends to make a tight against Representative B. L. Eddv, County Clerk Mason and Sheriff Alder man. It looks to us as though this is a tight, not so much against these officials ns it is against the better nn«l conserva tive element in the republican partv- Bul let them make the tight by all means atul give them plenty of rope to do so. for they will hang themselves, sure, when they attempt to tight officials whom the taxpayers and theiepublican partv have reason to lie proud of.
