As the Pacific Coast appears to be now a profitable field for them, it isjust as well not to leave too much treasure in safes for them to make a haul should they decide to give this city a friendly visit. As some of the roads in the county are in a deplorable condition, especially in the south part, the question arises how are they to lie improved with the limited amount of money at the disposal of the county commissioners. Some peo ple would, no doubt, favor borrowing money and improving the roads at the first opportunity. As we are opposed to the pernicious bonding system, we are not in favor of that. How then is the county commissioners going to get more money for road work ? It appears to us that the non-resident property owners should be taxed higher, particularly those who are holding land for specula tion. We think i- only right that they should be made to pay a large proportion of the taxes for road work, as those who reside here are not only improving the county and increasing its wealth, but they do much to enhance the value of the property of non-residents. This is a question worthy of consideration, and we believe it will solve the bad road problem quicker than anything in a very few years. Let us have good roads, even if we have to tax non-resident pro perty owners double what they are pay ing now. In justice to the resident tax payers this is only right, and the Head light is in favor of taking the bull by the horns and not let go taxing the land speculators who own property in this county until we have all the main roads in good condition for summer and win ter travel. Are the resident taxpayers in favor of this ? The Banner1 pat Have you tried the prime beef at L. N. Barnes’ new meat market on Main st. ?
