Kelso and Gust Wickland started in to mow some oats at Homer Mason,s ranch north of town, and aa Mr. Wickland was driving the team on the first round, with Mr Kelso cluse in the rear, he ran into and upset a hive of bees wlvcli Mr. Maeon had hived there ami left, not having time to remove them before the oats had grown up and hidden them. As soon as the bees found out the trouble they be gan to fly out to avenge their wrecked home, , Mr. Kelso being fleet of foot on such < occasions, hastily placed several hundred feel between him and the en- raged bees, but not before he had felt the hot feet of a score or mure bees. Mr. Wickland could not well ni’i as he had his team to care for and get out of the road. In a very short time his head and hands were literally covered with l»ees each one trying to sting the hardest. After a little trouble with the horses Mr. Wickland succeeded in getting out oi danger and on reaching home became suddenly very sick from the poison of the8lings. Soda and clay pastes were applied freely and he was soon out of pain and ail danger. Mr. Wickland says there must have been several hun dred bees on his headjm i hands]aiid says further that the next lime he will send Mr. Kelso on ahead to let the bees know he is coming. M. the war which has raged between the United States ami Spain for 3 months and 22 days was brought to a close by the signing of a protocol by Secretary Day for the United States and M. This protocol which is to form the basis of a definite treaty of peace pro vides in subalance as follows: “Spain will relinquish all claim of sov ereignity over and title to Cuba. “Porto Rico and other Spanish inland in the West Indies and island in the Ladrones, to be selected by the United States, shall be ceeded to the latter. “The United States shall occupy and hold the city, bay and liaibor of Manila, pending the conclusion of the tieaty of peace, which shall d< e nine the con trol, disposition and government of the Philippines. “Cuba, Porto Rico ami other Spanish island in the West Indies shall be im mediately evacuated. “The United Slates and Spain shall each appoint not more than 5 commis sioners to negotiate and conclude the treaty of peace.
