The latest in railroad circles, says the Astorian, is the report put out last night on good authority that Mr. A B. Ilain- niond’s latest-scheme is the completion of the old Corey line through the Neha lem to make connection with the South ern Pacific, time forming an outlet for Willamette Valley products direct to Astoria. In connection with this it is said that the Klickitat railroad, now partly constructed from Vancouver, Wash., will be finished to the eastern Washing ton grain fields in the same interest. The presence of Corey Bros., and snpt Mr. Wattis, in Astoria, lends some color to the statement. Two years ago it was stated in the Asturian that Mr. Hammond's plans probably ennteniplat- eil the direct connection of Elavel with the Nehalem coal fields aind the Willam ette Valley.
