The eggs from the abnor mally fat bens seldom hatch. The chicken usually dies on or alrout th- twelfth day of incubation. When an egg hatches a day or two in advance of time one usually concludes that it w is quite fresh when put ill, but I now find Hint it is the eggs from the active mid most healthy hens that break the shell first. Five eggs from a little game lira, »Hover five days old, were the first to hatch. Invariably the egg from the sleepy, lazy hen hatches late. Out of t venty-seven hens whose eggs I exper imented with I found two quite sterile. They both lay fine, large eggs of good shape and shell, but though I have tried quite a dozen of their eggs, not one has even Bad n sign of a chicken. I have even mated them with different roosters, hut without avail; and strange to say, they are the w net tempered liens in the yard, always quarreling and beating tire others. . The array of facts and figures marshaled to show the timeliness and importance of this step ought to make a deep impression upon the Congressional mind. The enor mous growth of the postal money-order business is adduced as showing how the people already patronize the postal service for the transmission of funds.
