I’ORTLAND, Sept.3^.—The month end
ing has been an exceptionally lively
one in shipping circles. Eleven full car
goes of wheat and flour have left Port
land for Europe, and a twelfth is in the
stream loaded ami ready to cleai. A
5000-ton steamship, the Monmouthshire,
brought to Portland the most valuable
cargo ever entered at the poit, the lea
ami silk amounting to over $1,500,000
Another immense steamer, the Glenlochy
wi'h a capacity of 7500 lone, took aboard
at Portland the largest cargo of lumber
ever put afloat any where in the world,
the total amount being over 3,200,000
feet, while another 6000-lon steamer, the
City of Perth, carried away a cargo of
2,650,000 feet of lumber.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 30.—The pro
gress of the yellow fever epidemic, up to
'.he close of the day, reported to the
office of the surgeon-general of l he ma» ine
hospital service, gives a total of 682 cases
and 60 deaths in the entire country, dis-
