They are nearly as bad ns an archists. They are here only to incite strife and turmoil. They should be forced to quit politics and preaching They and go to producing potatoes They should raise hay instead of hell, should employ themselves dairying in stead of playing the devil. They should dig out stumps instead o" damning the community. In short, they should be put to work, and «lie forced to keep their cavernous mouths closed until they are a< climated. They come here sponging off the people, and while at it they stir up all the fanaticism in the country. Give us a little solid patriotism, and out with the sham fakirs and adventurers. Some men have the effrontery to de ny the records of the courts, ami some would deny their <-wn records. Anyone who doubts the following should go to the county clerk’s ollice or see Judge Holden ami verify the same. Maulshy was arrested for embezzle ment of tines collected, over $30 in all. He begged for mercy, and the judge let him out on a technicality. He paid the money in then as soon as lie could raise it and was not prosecuted. About a year ago Chas. Chatterton was fined $ 10 for licking one E. J. El mer. Mr. Chatterton paid the fine and I has a receipt for it. Maulsby turned in only $5 of it to the county, saying lie had repiitted part of it. Chattel ton in dignantly denies that any part of the i fine was remitted, ami says he begged the Judge io make it $20 so lie could ap peal it. Now, a man who will steal $5 or $30 will steal more. Of course, we admit that Judge Maulshy needed the money, ns he has generally been too generous with a disreputable class, hut he should have gotten it through the pro|>er chan nels. If the county court had allowed it to him out of the pour fund, it would have looked better, and been more in accordance with law . Furthermore, the records show where hundreds of dollars have been frittered away on frivolous prosecutions on ac count of Judge Maulshy, ami some very dirty criminals have escape«! by Ids de cisions when the eviden *e was ample and damning. Maulshy made a great many deeds and other Ifgal papers in early days, and any abstracter of titles will tell you that it would take thous ands of dollars to straighten these mat ters out. $1.50 Per Year about even, tbougli my account against him was a little larger, lie gave Peter Brant nil order on me for $15 25, which Mr. Brant did-not present until Mr. Al derman went away. I never signed, endorsed or acknowledged the order as being of any force, but Mr. Brant sued me before Bill Smith ami Smith prompt ly gave judgment against me, which goes to show that the rumor a“ to his taking cases for vvhat he can get out of them is true. Smith told me before the case came up that my account was as good as the other and Unit I would win the ease, or I should have asked for a jury. J ohn S tkwaht .
