LOCAL NEWS. The Gammiideltiaii society of the Academy gave 11 social to the students and teachers of the school last Saturday night. Mrs. Hosmer's school at Fairview closed Friday. There was a large atten dance, ami an out door picnic was en joyed. People here in Tillamook who know all about the lands of the Siletz reserva tion are not making any rush to get there. Three hundred cases, latest patent, Mason’s fruit j irs, just received at Colins, ami prices even lower than they were last season. Robt J. Giles has spent several weeks here in the interest of the State Insur ance Co., of Salem. While here he made many friends believe everything he says. Why, the other day he was condemning velvet grass and extoling timothy, and he said that timothy was rich in posphates and nntrogenous matter. He til.so stated there was no caseine in velvet grass, and that a ton of it wouldn’t weigh over 500 pounds. G. ANOntlON KILLED. He Died from the Effect of Injuries Kecelved while Working in Ills ■MB -Mill fie A G. Anderson met with an accident Tuesday which cost him his life. He got his right leg crused completely off, besides being bruised otherwise, ami on Wednesday morning died from the effect of the shock and his injuries. lie was working the edger in his wa ter-power saw mill, on Killam creek, when a large bell flew off and became wrapped around the drive pulley. Mr. Anderson tried to catch the belt as it was flapping around, but it knocked him down and under the large wooden pulley. The pulley has a rim and the fluor is cut away under it. His leg pro- jected into the hole and was literally hr wed off by tke rough rim of the pulley and he was otherwise bruised. One of the Walling boys was at work near by and extricated the unfortunate man from the tangle, but not until the machinery was stopped with r large block of wood, and when Mr Anderson was lifted out it was seen that his leg was cut off a few inches below the knee, and it was found afterward below’ the floor. When first helped out he laugh ed not realizing he w as seriously hurt, hut soon fainted away and grew weaker un til he died. Drs. Seal and Petre were theie shortly, amputated the jagged bones and dressed the wounds, but surgical skill availed nothing. Deceased was born in Sweden in 1850, ami came to America in 1868. He has been married twice ami leaves a widow ami nine children, one boy and two girls being grown. Misses 'Telia and Mamia tnderson of this place aie daughters, and Mrs. J. P.
