Senator Maxwell has received a fitter
from Mr Guild, republican candidate
for joint representative, ami he requests
us io say that Mr. Guild is sick, and for
that reason has been unable to visit
Tillamoox
He promises, if elected,
however, to come to Tillamook and get
acquainted with the people before assum
ing the duties of his office.
Mr. Maxwell also requests us to publish
the following statement, which is self-

Yesterday a gentleman came in to stop
his pa|M*r assigning his reason as follows:
“Mr (’oats, who is in with yon came to
the Fairview republican primary and
tried to vote. Walt Smith objected, and
Coats swore that lie was a republican,
and that he had nothing to do with the
naper except to act as reporter ” It was
explained to the gentleman that it was
Stodd.ird of tiie Advocate, who did that
remarkable thing. It is a fact that Stod
dard, the owner if the Advocate, voted in
the republican primary, claiming he had
nothing to do with the paper. It is
pretty hard to have the sins of the Advo
cate heaped upon this office, so we make
public the true status of the case
