cecded the bounds of propriety in
describing the doings of the har-
lot-mongers in this city, but some
plain facts couched in un-mistnk-

and order.
Senatoi J. W. M’xwell, of
Tillamook, was in St. Helens on
Wednesday last, looking after the
interests and wants of his constit­
uency. Mr. Maxwell seems favor­
ably incl ned toward the repeal of
the exemption for indebtedness
law, but would not advocate such
a measure in opposition to the
wishes of his constituents. He is
very enthusiastic over the efforts
being made by the newspapers to
bring about the modification of our
present road system, ; ml a so

assessment law amended to some
more satisfactory manner. Mr.
Maxwell lias been a member of the
Oregon Legislature before, conse­
quently lie may be able to secure
some valuable legislation during
the coming four years for which
lie has been elected by Columbia,
Washington and Tillamook coun­
