I traitor, after defeat came, is wrong in the extreme, and many who have been accused of treachery, came nearer voting the straight ticket than those who arc lou 'est in their accusations. Now, as to thecourse pursued by this paper, we have no apology to offer, not thinking it dishonorable, or that we need lie ashamed of. Many of our friends saw fit to take a different course from what we did during the cam paign, and it is not our province to abuse them, nor is it right for others to pour their gall and bitterness on the heads of men who acted from honest motives. It is easy to refer to the past record of some who are doing a great deal of talking, and show that their present positions are untenable and inconsistent, but it is useless and only serves to kindle the flame of revenge, which H’ems to have been ranqiant for the past four years. O r THE PATRICK It« HARDWARE, MILK TEST. Inventor Offer« It to the Without a Patent. People The Iowa station milk test was repre- aentr.) by Prof. Patrick, supervising testa, asaistetl by State Hairy Coni mission er Tupper ami U. VV. Wait, the latter being a.wistaut chemist of the laboratory at the experimental station To Mr. Patrick is due the invention of the first accurate milk test in Iowa, which was placed on exhibition at Des Moines in 18S9. The original purpose was to furnish an accu rate test for fanners’ use in testing their cows, but the necessity for snclt an ap- |>arattis in creameries has caused a de mand for increased capacity. We believe the present mode, as ex hibited at the state fair this fall, will do away with the great objection raised to it fonnerly, as it increases the capacity materially A coil of steam pipe is placed in the bottom of an oblong box lined with zinc and filled with brine, connected with a similar box filled with water. Since the introduction of the brine bath into the oblong boxes with the steam pi|x.-s at the bottom, theopera- tor can commence measuring the milk into the tubes, then adding the acid, and after shaking the two together can place twelve tubes ill each rack, thereby plac ing the first filled tubes into boiling brine Yon can then fill the second rack with tubes. Place the second rack in beside the third. When the rack is filled the first one will lie ready to place into the water bath at 140 «legs., and by the time the J fourth rack is filled tile tubes in the first are ready to read. This expedites mat ters considerably, the operator being constantly tilling and reading the testa Professor Patrick's vigorous and con scientious work deserves special praise. , He refuses to take any interest in the | test commercially, but works unselfishly in behalf of the state, which is fortunate in securing so able and honorable a man to serve it.—Creamery Journal.
