THE PLANT.
Tho plant is the latest improved and
most perfect system ill use. The ma­
chinery is of the most approved pattern,
is finely finished, and very delicate and
positive in action, though simple in con­
struction . It was furnished by lhe North
West Thomson-Houston Electric Com­
pany of Portland, Oregon, aril tills
company has furnished the lighting sys-
l terns for a great number of cities and
towns in tho North West, living in use
more than any other. The Thomson-
Houston machines arc in use in Portland,
1 Forest Grove, Tacoma, Seattle, Olympia,
North Yakima, and many other cities
in Oregon and Washington, and the sys­
tem is in use in the principal cities nil
over the World, having been brought to

it high degree of perfection. The diffi­
? culties which were encountered a few
years ago have been entirely overcome,
and electric lights are now the cheapest,
best, and most effective artificial lights
in existence.
The plant put in here is as good us the
best used’in the large cities, and no ex­
pense has been spared in putting in the
very best and most durable appliances,
even to the poles and minor wires.
, I The dynamo fertile ineamlescent light
is a fine machine, and has a capacity of
1,100 volts, or 650 1 (¡-candle-power lights,
though 250 of these lights are sufficient
fol the city at present. The arc dynamo
| has a capacity of eight 2,000-cnndle-
j power arc lights, and the six arc lights
on the streets make the city at night al­
most us light uM «lay. The Exciter is
a smaller dynamo used to excite a eur-
, rent in the large alternating incandescent
dynamo, and is a powerful little machine
of itself One side of the room where
the plant is located is called the switcli-

known as Rheostats, for regulating ami
' modifying the current as it is turned on
the main wires, for both are and incan-

in charge of the Thompson-Houston
Electrical Exibit at the Portland exposi­
tion last year, nt which 100 arc and 3000
incandescent lamps were kept going, lie
has had ehnrgo of tho construction
here, and will stay thirty days after tho
lights are slarted here, and give instruct­
ions to the engineers and electricians
who will be left in charge. Curtis Cren­

Wm. Webb, an expert electrician, wero
also utilized during the construction.
The enterprise shown bv the Tillamook
Lumbering Co. which put in the plant is
highly commendable, and the people of
Tillamook seem imbued with the same
spirit of progression, ami are giving the
Company liberal patronage.
