VIRGIL HOWARD LYNCH Virgil Howard Lynch Jr., 63, St. Helens, died November 25, 2012. A Celebration of Life service was held November 29, at Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Vernonia, with Elder Marvin J. Long, of the Council Creek Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Forest Grove, presid- Virgil Howard Lynch ing. Dedication of the grave followed with Full Military Hon- ors under the American Veter- ans Honor Guard at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Lynch was born Decem- ber 5, 1948, in Forest Grove, to Virgil H. Lynch Sr. and Effie L. (Butrum) Lynch. He grew up in Tillamook County. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967, serving in his first tour of the Vietnam War, where he erned both the Air Medal and a Purple Heart for his service in the 114th Assault Helicopter Company, Second Platoon. He received his first honorable dis- charge from in 1969, but re-en- listed for a second tour of the war, as well as some time in Germany. In 1972 he received a second honorable discharge, but again re-enlisted, this time for non-combat duty in the Pre- sidio, San Francisco. His final honorable discharge was in 1975. He married Patricia J. Steele in 1973, in Vernonia, where they had met. They lived on the army base in San Francisco until his final Army discharge, when they returned to Oregon, eventually settling in Vernonia. They moved to St. Helens in 1998. He worked for the Stimson- Forestex plant in Forest Grove, then went to work for Georgia Pacific – Wauna Paper Mill, in Westport, until his death. He enjoyed woodworking and taught himself how to build cabinets, hutches, tables, lawn furniture, shelves and many other items. He enjoyed shar- ing home improvement and landscape projects with his wife. He also spent time read- ing, going to the gym, taking family trips, and checking out classic/hot rod vehicle shows. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Survivors include his wife, daughters, Christina Lynch of Newberg, and Sarah Lynch of Saint Helens; sisters, Nancy Jackson of Vancouver, Wash., Janet LeSollen of Saint Helens, nd Mary Jane Hackler of New- port; brother, Clayton Lynch; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his two furry daughters, “Maddie” and “Gab- bie”. Remembrances are sug- gested to one’s local Humane Society. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Vernonia was in charge of the arrangements.
