Mary Beth Hartman Vernonia Elk hunt is last wish of cancer patient To the Editor: The Hunt of a Lifetime. My name is Mark Stewart, I live and work in Vernonia, and at- tend college at PCC. My father has terminal cancer, and has one wish to fulfill – he would like to go elk hunting this fall. I’m writing this in hope that someone would allow him ac- cess to a private land area to harvest an elk. He has limited mobility, so getting around comes very hard. If anyone would like to help me make his dream a reality, it would mean the world to me. I love my fa- ther very much and would so appreciate this for him. Thank you, and God Bless, Mark Stewart Vernonia 503-410-6243 Maygra team waiting for answer from PGE To the Editor: So I called PGE (Mark Fry- berg/503-464-8002) and asked for a political contribution to Tammy Maygra’s campaign for Columbia County Commission- er. I told Mr. Fryberg I had read their information online about how PGE is non partisan and will contribute to any viable candidate. I told him Ms. Maygra is a vi- able candidate as she is in a runoff with Tony Hyde for Co- lumbia County Commissioner, Position 3. I also told him that I was aware PGE had made siz- able contributions for Tony Hyde and Earl Fisher in their bid for retaining their positions as county commissioners. I was told PGE had decided to support the incumbents and that he was sorry that he had to turn down my request. I asked him if the reason PGE was supporting Hyde and Fisher was because these commis- sioners had given PGE a 33 million dollar tax abatement over the next few years at PGE’s Port Westward project – a project which might provide one or two permanent jobs in the county. Mr. Fryberg said he would have to get back to me on that. I am still waiting. Nancy Whitney St. Helens Ed. note: Whitney is campaign manager for Tammy Maygra. Obituary MARGARET A.
