Senior Center News
Hey, you seniors: This Friday, August 17, is the date of the an-
nual senior picnic hosted by the Vernonia Senior Citizens Center.
The annual summer get-together will be held at the covered pic-
nic shelter in Anderson Park, with hamburgers, hot dogs and bev-
erages supplied by the senior center. The rest of the picnic is pot
luck, so bring along your favorite summer dish for sharing while
you catch up with old friends. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy
a summer day with others.
Because school clothes can be very expensive, drop in to the
senior center thrift shop and check out some terrific bargains on
clothing for kids of all ages. Throughout the month of August, you
can fill a paper bag with children’s clothes for just $5.00 per bag!
Come in to see how much you can save!
It seems to take a very long time for summer to reach our little
valley, then it’s only a short time before fall arrives. Labor Day is
just around the corner on Monday, September 3rd. The senior
center will be closed on Labor Day.
If you want to while away a hot summer day with congenial
company, come see what’s going on in the senior center. Right af-
ter lunch, a poker game or two can be found on Thursdays, plus
more games on Fridays. On Tuesdays there will be needle work,
quilting, etc., from 10 a.m. to closing (Yes, they break for lunch.).
You can also get your blood pressure checked on the 4th
Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m. to noon.
Lunch is served Monday through Friday at noon. A $4.00 do-
nation is suggested for those 60 and older, and $5.00 for those
under 60. If you prefer lunch to go, for only $5.00 you can call
ahead and place your order.
You can play free Bingo with lunch each Monday starting at
11:45 a.m., and on the last Wednesday of each month, Wauna
Federal Credit Union provides ice cream for all diners.
This month’s 5 Area Lunch will be held Monday, August 27, in
St. Helens, and August birthday honorees will be recognized at
lunch on August 31st.
