Page 4 The INDEPENDENT, May 2, 2012 Wauna gives details of 45th annual meeting with members Wauna Federal Credit Union celebrated its 45th Annual Meeting with over 100 mem- bers during the afternoon of April 14 at the Westport Com- munity Church Fellowship Hall in Westport, Oregon. During the business meeting, CEO & President Robert Blumberg, and Karl Hansen, Chair of the Board of Directors, reported the state of the Credit Union as of the end of 2011. Blumberg reported total as- sets of $137.2 million, total loans of $114.5 million, total deposits of $124.6 million, a capital ratio of 8.4% (of total assets), and total membership of 15,364. He concluded his report by expressing appre- ciation to the volunteer Board and Supervisory Committee, and to the staff, for their dedi- cation and hard work during the local and national economic challenges. Hansen extended apprecia- tion to the volunteer Board for their efforts, commitment, and vision to help support the growth and success of the Credit Union. He also highlight- ed several milestones during the year, including the Silver LEED Certification presented to the green-built Scappoose Branch and important deci- sions which helped the Credit Union perform well despite the challenges of the economy. Hansen also recognized outgoing board members Ed See Wauna on page 17 Employment numbers flat in March Columbia County’s season- ally adjusted unemployment rate was 9.4 percent in March, unchanged from the previous month but lower than the year before (10.6%). The rate was higher than the statewide rate (8.6%) and the national rate (8.2%). Total employment rose by 73 to 22,395 and the num- ber of unemployed people rose by 11 to 2,602. Total employ- ment this March was 312 more than one year before and there were 115 fewer people unem- ployed this year. By comparison, the Portland metro rate was 7.9 percent.
