The INDEPENDENT, December 21, 2011 Sheriff seeks help with theft at quarry The Columbia County Sher- iff’s Office responded to the Ea- gle Star Rock Products Quarry, 35365 Hankey Rd., St. Helens, on December 12, after thieves broke in and stole copper wire and damaged equipment total- ing more than $15,000 in loss- es to the company. The Sheriff’s Office believes more than one suspect is in- volved in the theft and criminal mischief. The doors were kicked in, locks cut, and a large rock crushing machine was rendered inoperable when the heavy copper wiring used to power the machine was stripped from it. Other equip- ment and wiring were also tak- en or destroyed. “The suspects were be- lieved to be driving a vehicle, possibly a small pickup with a left tire that left a different tread pattern than the other three tires,” said Sheriff Jeff Dicker- son.
