RITA CATHERINE HERMENS Rita Catherine Hermens, 91, Banks area, died November 19, 2011. A funeral mass was held November 28 at St. Ed- ward Catholic Church in North Plains. Vault interment was at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Hermens was born May 30, 1920. She grew up in Roy on the Duyck farm and graduated from Banks High School. In 1947, she married Bertram “Bud” Hermens. They made their home in the Roy, Banks, Verboort area. She helped her husband run the B. J. Hermens Garage. She enjoyed gardening, par- ticularly flowers, golf, square dancing, pinochle, cribbage and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Baby; five brothers, Charles, Emil, Julius, George, and Joseph; and two sisters, Sylvia Ander- sen, and Regina Stadelman. Survivors include four chil- dren, Linus, Paul, Rosalee, and Royce; and seven grandchil- dren. Remembrances are sug- gested to the St. Edwards Cap- ital Building Fund and the Hills- boro Knights of Columbus. Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MARY ANN LINN Mary Ann Linn, 88, Banks, died November 20, 2011. Mrs. Linn was born Novem- ber 30, 1922, in Savannah, Missouri, to Jay and Ethel (Mc- Fadden) Holt. As a young girl, the family moved to Glendale, California. She graduated from Glendale High School in 1940, then attended college for two years. In 1943, she married Jack Linn. They made their home in California, Hawaii, and New Mexico. They later divorced. She worked for Hewlett Packard as an administrative assistant until she retired in 1990 and moved to Banks. Mary Ann Linn She enjoyed reading, scrab- ble, cooking and volunteered for Washington Co. Justice De- partment, Meals on Wheels, and Pacific University. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael. Survivors include her two sons, John Linn of Trego, Mon- tana, and Peter Linn of Paul- den, Arizona; and three grand- children. Her family expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the care their mother received from Marquis Care. Remembrances are sug- gested to the Oregon Humane Society. Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. RUTH MAE SWAJA Ruth Mae Swaja, 98, Banks, died November 22, 2011. A fu- neral mass was held Novem- ber 29 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Portland. Burial took place in Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Mrs. Swaja was born Octo- ber 22, 1913, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Earl and Mary Francis (Pierce) Turner. She was raised in Des Moines. their home in Portland, then Beaver Creek, then back to Portland before moving to Banks in 1987. She worked in trucking industry offices until she retired at age 64. She enjoyed camping, her houseplants, flowers, sports, cooking and canning. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Marie Vickers. Ruth Mae Swaja In 1935, she married Tom Swaja. They made their home in Des Moines, moving to Port- land after World War II. In the early 1970s, they moved to Banks. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, her flower garden, teaching adult catechism class- es and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Dave; two daughters, Kathy and Mary Jo; two brothers, Randy Turner and Dale Turner; and a great- grandson. Survivors include one son, Steve Swaja of Conway, Ar- kansas; two daughters, Sheila Swaja of Aloha, and Rita Willoughby of Seattle, Wash- ington; a brother, John Turner of Fort Smith, Arkan.; 14 grand- children, many great-grandchil- dren and great-great-grandchil- dren. BEVERLY JUNE VICKERS Beverly June Vickers, 72, Banks, died November 26, 2011. A service was held De- cember 1 at Willamette Nation- al Cemetery in Portland. Mrs. Vickers was born June 4, 1939, in Portland, to Earl and Helen (Holt) Waldron. She was raised in Portland. In 1964, she married Eston E. “Vic” Vickers. They made home in Kankakee until moving to Lake Havasu, Arizona in 1971. In 1994, she moved to Chandler, Ariz., then to Buxton in 2010. JaAnne Faye Ziemer Beverly June vickers Survivors include her hus- band; four sons, Craig S. Vick- ers of Beaverton, Jim E. Vick- ers of Lincoln City, Jesse E. Vickers of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Todd C. Vickers of Felton, California; two grand- children, two great-grandchil- dren, nieces and nephews. JOANNE FAYE ZIEMER JoAnne Faye Ziemer, 73, Buxton, died November 19, 2011. A celebration of life will be held December 20 at her daughter’s home in Buxton. Mrs. Ziemer was born March 3, 1938, in Kankakee, Illinois, to Joseph W. and Bernice A. (Scharlach) LaFlame. She graduated from Kankakee High School in 1955. In 1961, she married Ray- mond Ziemer. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ray- mond L.; a daughter, Shellie Wallace; and a brother, Richard LaFlame. Survivors include one son, Timothy Ziemer of Chandler, Ariz.; three daughters, Cynthia Ziemer of Santa Barbara, Cali- fornia; Ammie Fornataro of Buxton, and Jennifer Draper of Beaverton; eight grandchil- dren, and three great-grand- children.
